Change Your LocationGreat News: YouTube.com is assigning Music Content Copyright information to Salsa Videos on their service!
Wed, Nov 30, 2011 08:10 AM by Milton RodasYOUTUBE MUSIC COPYRIGHT — YouTube.com is doing an oustanding job in tracking and properly giving copyright credits to the companies that own the musical content being played in salsa music or dance videos posted on their service. This goes a long way for salsa music lovers who used to get tired of asking in the comments section: "Does anyone know the song that's playing?"Inquiries that would go unanswered many times to the frustration of many who really wanted to know the artist, the name of the song, perhaps the CD it was on, and buy it either as an MP3 or a whole album. I truly believe that this is something that will go a long way for labels, bands, and artists who have struggled with making income, as MP3s are easily ripped and shared online, via email, or in burned dics. Salsa dancers and lovers everywhere know that they have been…
Alma Del Barrio | Public Radio in Los Angeles filling up the airways with Salsa & Latin Music
Mon, Aug 15, 2011 10:38 AM by Milton RodasALMA DEL BARRIO RADIO 88.9 FM — Alma Del Barrio's coverage range from its Loyola Marymount University (LMU)'s transmitting quarters must have increased in the past few months, because they are truly filling up the airways of Los Angeles with the great Latin music they play.
This past weekend, as I ran some errands in the Westwood/Hollywood area, I could clearly listen to the great selection of songs by Alma Del Barrio 88.9 FM all throughout the morning!
I recall that many years ago, as soon as you got on the 10 fwy from the 405 fwy and drove east, you lost reception of the 88.9 FM dial. This was tragic for someone like me.
Nowadays, you could literally maybe throw a mid-day party and use only the music selections transmitted by Alma Del Barrio! Aside from some regular chit-chat by the DJs and a few undanceable…

New Salsa bands seek to keep the beloved Latin genre alive
Wed, May 25, 2011 08:41 PM by Milton RodasSAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO — La Orquesta Macabeo, la PVC, San Juan Habana, NG2, and Villariny Salsa Project are some of the new generation musical bands from Puerto Rico that are working hard to keep the Latin genre of Salsa alive.
"It isn't dead," confirms José Ibañez, musical director of Macabeo; rather, the followers of the genre don't attempt to follow the new generation of musicians and they stick to only following the most popular bands or artists.
Ibañez believes that people simply like to live and remember the greatness of the old Salsa, or Salsa clásica, and they don't want to listen the new rhythms of today.
On top of that, salsa bands all over the world fancy themselves with simply playing covers of old artists and bands, which maintains their popularity alive and trains the listeners or salsa lovers to only like those songs, those…

Edwin Rivera's 'Soul of a Dancer': "Beautiful"!
Tue, Jan 19, 2010 03:33 AM by Milton RodasI happened to be dancing at Stevens Steak House, a local nightclub in Los Angeles, when I heard a tune coming out of the speakers that really made me want to dance! Quickly, I grabbed (asked kindly) a girl who I knew could feel the music the way I did and we headed to the dance floor. As the song progressed my enthusiasm about it grew and I just had to stop dancing to ask the DJ what was the name of the song! The DJ of the night, Martin 'El Travieso', replied: "Beautiful"... My reply to him was: "Yes, I know it's beautiful, but what's the name of the song?" He laughed and replied again: "the name is 'Beautiful'!"
Well, that night I continued dancing and never really got to ask Martin who the artist was, but one night, as I listened to Edwin Rivera's new album, "Soul…Song: "Yo No Se Mañana" by Luis Enrique
Tue, Dec 01, 2009 12:42 PM by Milton Rodas"Yo No Se Mañana" has people screaming at Salsa night clubs all over Los Angeles, and I am sure all over the world!
As soon as the first tunes come out of the speakers at any nightclub, people anxiously scream and begin running all over the place to find someone to dance with and enjoy the next 4:19 minutes to the fabulous sound of Luis Enrique's voice, the lyrics being sung, and the amazing musical production! This is the type of music that was missing in the local Salsa scene and it was long overdue! Thank you Luis Enrique, "Principe de la Salsa," for making a comeback to our ever-growing scene! We are sooo happy you are back!! No, really!! :) Now, when will so many DJs actually understand our fascination and love with this particular song? It is truly a shame when a full night goes by and the DJ…Featured Salsa Videos
