Los Angeles Friday Salsa Dancing: More options in one night than some cities have in a week
Fri, Jul 01, 2011 09:17 AM by Milton RodasLOS ANGELES FRIDAY SALSA — How many cities can say that they have more than five options in Salsa venues to go to on a Friday night? Can San Diego or San Francisco say that? How about New York? I am sure they can, and maybe they even have more.
Well, what if we spoke about fourteen Salsa nightclubs happening every Friday night in the city of Los Angeles? (and that excludes The Mayan and other venues that we don't really consider "Salsa clubs") Yes, that's how many venues we have every Friday night in Los Angeles!
A lot of people living in Los Angeles don't give any importance to this, as they are simply used to having the options and that's that. But when you love salsa dancing and you are stuck in a city that only has one, or two, or three venues on any given night…
La Fonda Supper Club on Wilshire Boulevard has a Great New Look
Wed, Jun 29, 2011 11:02 PM by Milton RodasLA FONDA ON WILSHIRE — La Fonda Restaurant & Nightclub was established in 1968 and made national headlines for combining a Mexican dining experience with Live Mariachi music. The venue has always attracted local tourism and it has also established a very loyal following amongst patrons enamored with La Fonda experience.
Today, La Fonda's owner and management team have aimed to maintained the traditional ambiance that popularized the venue for decades, while bringing certain parts of the locale to the design standards of the twenty-first century.
La Fonda's new lounge has the appearance of a Vegas nightclub but still retains the warmth and comfort of old Mexico. It is truly a delight to step in there, enjoy a delicious drink, perhaps some Mexican appetizers, and blend in with the vibe of the place.

Promoting Salsa in a Social Society
Tue, Jun 21, 2011 10:37 AM by Milton RodasSOCIAL SALSA — For those of us seeking to promote salsa dancing and music simply because we love it tremendously, being in sync with what's happening in our social society is of outmost importance. But knowing how to use the social tools at our disposal is even more important than just using them.
SalsaHook.com's fan page with Facebook only has a little over 1,500 fans; the account is linked to twitter for live newsfeeds, but when it comes to really tapping into the social web, we fall short. Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Tumblr, etc., are all social tools that are often not used at all in our salsa community.
A report today on CNN.com explained how even the ever-popular Facebook is now losing users by the millions. To assume that having a fan page with 20,000 or 100,000 followers (in our case less than 1,600 followers) will give you notoriety…
Just "Shut Up and Dance"!
Thu, Jun 16, 2011 12:02 PM by Milton RodasRUSHIN' TO DANCE — Some of the most fun dances in my salsa life have happened with people with simply couldn't shut up and just dance! They kept on talking through salsa songs, during every spin or double spin or triple spin, during dips, cross-body leads, and even shines!
Now, when I refer to "they" I actually probably only mean one person...my old salsa friend Ally Perlina, who moved to San Diego a few years ago. She was the most fun to dance with only because I spent 80-90% of any song we ever danced to, asking her to just shut up and dance! She loved it too and knew it was annoying as heck, so she kept on doing it...or maybe she just couldn't help it. I dunno...
Well, have you ever found people like that? My friend Ally would talk about anything, from the music, to…
Why are some Professional Salsa Dancers unwilling to 'really' teach beginners?
Thu, Jun 16, 2011 08:52 AM by Milton RodasSALSA DANCING BEWARE — It is common knowledge that there are some professional salsa dancers in every scene who truly wish to make have a grand lifestyle off what they do with their dancing and teaching in the salsa scene. These pro dancers see each person in their classes as cash flow that they better squeeze out like a lemon before they are gone to learn from someone else or to not take any lessons anymore.
These pro dancers will be quick to promote their "private dance lessons," their "shoe lines," or their "salsa wear fashion dresses," etc, etc., to dancers who have attended only one of their lessons. You will hear a line that sounds a bit like this about their private lessons: "if you truly want to learn to dance, you have to pay me to teach you privately, where all my attention can be given to…
Ana Rosa Design dresses dancers in the Salsa competition and performance community
Thu, Jun 16, 2011 08:15 AM by Milton RodasANA ROSA DESIGN — Today, when you watch a Salsa show or competition in Los Angeles, part of what makes it a very pleasant experience is the fact that the dancers seem to be dressed so well with flashy and sexy costumes. This wasn't always the case in LA, where dancers used to simply wear matching clothes to function as costumes for dance performances or competitions.
Ana Rosa Design has played a principal role in what has changed how Salsa dancers dress on-stage. She began providing uniquely designed costumes to dancers in the Salsa Community around the year of 2008. Some of the first salsa teams and dancers to wear her designs were those related to the "Tropical Rhythm" dance company in Los Angeles. And as soon as other dancers and dance troupes realized how well-dressed TR dancers were, they also began going to Ana Rosa to get their…
Salsa Nightclub | Wokcano Salsa Tuesdays by Hooked on Salsa
Wed, Jun 15, 2011 11:50 AM by Milton RodasWOKCANO SALSA TUESDAYS — When I met Szilvi Kovacs at an Alma Del Barrio event at Loyola Marymount, I could tell that she had a drive unique to only a few salsa lovers. Most people are just happy dancing; others have to contribute and be part of something within the niche that they've chosen to spend their time in. Szilvi was definitely going to do something to promote salsa dancing, salsa music, and her love for it all.
Sure enough, Szilvi began promoting salsa nights at a club in Venice, CA, which was free to get in and was the talk of the town as a new option for Tuesday nights on the west side. Soon after, Szilvi and her salsa nights were featured on a local television news channel where they spoke of the health benefits of salsa dancing and the club itself.
Today, Szilvi, who promotes…
Jorgie and Tanja Bachata | The Most Watched "Latin Dance" Video on YouTube.com?

SalsaHook.com's Bounce Rate well under 1%
Mon, Jun 13, 2011 08:46 AM by Milton RodasSALSAHOOK.COM SEO — SalsaHook.com was created with the idea that the Salsa scene needed a web solution that would provide dancers with the information that they wanted the most: where to go dancing on any given night. Added to that were the ideas of having a small social network and a news site where users could, if they wanted to, contribute content to the site. And even though a lot of criticism has been received for inconceivable reasons, the site has flourished in its own right simply because its purpose and structure work.
SalsaHook.com allows any promoter of salsa dancing lover to SHARE information that they know about events that are happening in their area. Often times, this information can go unnoticed by salsa dancers eager to go dance at such events, only if they knew they were happening. SalsaHook.com provides that solution and we can oly wish more…
SalsaHook.com | Alma Latina "Los Angeles" will soon be based in Los Angeles!
Tue, May 31, 2011 02:02 PM by Milton RodasSALSAHOOK.COM — Alma Latina is a dance academy that stems from Tijuana, Mexico and is directed by professional world renowned salsa dancers, Sergio Jasso and Gaby Equiz.
In the recent years, Alma Latina has taken the world of salsa by storm with their highly-acclaimed on-stage dance performances, their winnings of numerous dance competitions, and simply the pure talent that each and every one of their dancers seems to possess. All of which is directly representative of the training they all receive and speaks very well of the methodology that Gaby and Sergio implement.
With their first satellite branch school inside the U.S. being in San Diego, CA, which is reasonably close to Tijuana, Mexico, Alma Latina seeked to move to Los Angeles, a world mecca of salsa dancing, and not just teach there, but also hold auditions for their four teams: amateur, intermediate, semi-pro, and professional.
Eventually,…

The venue attracts some of the best salsa dancers in the world every single week.
So large is the influence that Stevens Steak House imposes in the city of Los Angeles and all its relatively neighboring salsa dancing cities, such as San Diego, Las Vegas, San Francisco, etc., that when events are held in those cities, they are often called: "Stevens-On-Wheels," as most of the best dancers always attending are dancers who are regulars at Stevens Steak House.
This is not a treat that is easily comprehended by anyone who has never been at Stevens on a Tuesday or Sunday night, when some of the best dancers in Los Angeles, and subsequently,…
