ALEX DA SILVA was SENTENCED to 10 YEARS in prison

ALEX DA SILVA TRIAL SENTENCE 2012 — Today, the Alex Da Silva trial story that has captured the attention of the worldwide Salsa community finally culminated as the long-awaited sentencing hearing finally took place.

Alex Da Silva, 43, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was convicted of one count of rape and one count of assault with intent to commit rape. Two remaining charges were dismissed during the trial in 2011, as the jury deadlocked on them. — All alleged victims were his former students.

Additionally, Alex Da Silva was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Given time served since his initial arrest in 2009, his sentencing is probably worth 7 years, of which he has to serve a minimum of 80% according to California law. Some even believe that even less time will be served given the overcrowding of California prisons.

Judge Kennedy, who sentenced Alex Da Silva today, dinied a retrial motion presented by Da Silva's attorney, Patrick S. Smith.

Da Silva's camp seems determined to continue fighting as Alex Da Silva continues that assure that he did not commit the alleged crimes for which he was convicted, and he is only in his present situation because a jury believed lies told by women who wanted to destroy him.

As obvious, given Da Silva's history in the Salsa scene and the person that he was to many people, there are also numerous individuals who are convinced he is guilty of the alleged crimes and possible more.

The fact of the matter is that a trial was held and a conviction reached, for which today, a sentence was handed out.

The Salsa scene has seen one of his brightest stars fall down and it serves as a warning to so many out there, to be respectful at all times and/or to be careful of the people they surround themselves with if they achieve fame and fortume.

In the recent years, with the rise of social media and the up-to-the-minute news style era, it is not just Salsa that has seen the risks and dangers of having fame and fortune and not treating those around you well. Even Justin Bieber was accused of fathering a child by a woman who clearly simply wanted money in return. Some do it for money, others for 15 minutes of fame, and others for the pleasure of destroying someone they hate.

In a case of this sort, the truth is subjective to what was more believable...and at the end, it was Alex Da Silva's character as showcased in how poorly he sometimes treated others, that might have not helped him gain trust and belief. A jury is composed of human being with feelings, and such things always play a role.

As mentioned before in SalsaHook.com, no one of the players of this case were winners. They all lost so much through it all. Humiliation comes in so many ways, not just in being convicted. Our thoughts go out to all of them.

I believe these women are no longer "ALLEGED" victims. They are victims.
He was convicted. He was sentenced. He was found guilty and is lucky he got off by a hair on the other 2 charges. I know him from the scene and was warned by 2 women in 2005 to steer clear. His character might suck but we all make life choices and he obviously made some poor choices.
He will most like serve 5 years.

Reality is...

Reality is...the salsa scene is a scene driven by sexuality, sensuality, and sex. Women are as sex-driven as men are in the scene. If you are truly part of the salsa scene, then you would know...if you don't know about that, then you are not part of the scene...and must be only a fan of it.

Women are always seeking to do what we call in the scene: "Social Climbing." What that entails is something that some girls may not be okay with, but will go through with, while other girls completely love it... It's just like Hollywood. A popular actress either has the means and the financial backing to get on movies (i.e.: Emma Stone, her dad is a multi-millionaire construction contractor from Arizona who bankrolled her career), or they have to give something up...and sometimes, a lot of it up to a lot of people...until they get their break in the scene.

These women randomly ended up alone with a man who was known to be a player, and somehow did not expect to have any type of sexual relationship with him?? LOL! Come on! In the scene, you dance a few songs with a girl and depending on the setting (congress, club, etc), you'll be having sex with her the same night or shortly, in the following days. She'll be asking you for it and calling you up to see if you can take her out dancing, meet you at a club, etc. Men in this scene, if good looking, a bit successful, and nice dancer, don't have to try hard at all! All we got to do is dance and they come to us. That's the harsh reality of the Salsa scene.

Now, having regrets of having slept with someone? Sure, that happens to everyone! Guys also have plenty of moments when they regret having slept with someone. It happens to both genders. But was it regret? or was it rage? Rage that they were not taken seriously after a few times of intimacy? Rage that they believed they were in a relationship? or even that they gave up on all their morals, religious, or cultural beliefs for that night, did what they did, and regretted it to the point that they could not accept that they had had sex with a man they barely knew...so it had to have been rape. ("I could not have done that by my own will, I must have been forced into it")

Anyway, that is not to say that the contrary could not have happened as well. Alex could have very well forced himself into them simply because he felt entitled to their bodies since he had taken them out, paid for a few things, driven them around in his cars, danced with them a whole night, and after all, they came back with him or met him at his house...so what do they want out of it?? The usual response in the salsa scene would be "Sex"...that's what women want. But maybe this time these girls were so naive that they did not want any of it and only wanted to have fun, be taken out to disney land, magic mountain, and be romanced. Come on, Alex wasn't up for that or to play dolls with kids. So, maybe he did do what he did to every woman who ever came into his home...assuming these girls also wanted him. Nobody knows and nobody will know.

The fact it has been decided by a jury upon the evidence presented to them does not mean anything at all. It means that's what the jury believed happened, and that's that. But did it happen? Nobody knows. Only those women, Alex, and God. So, "alleged" victims stands from now and throughout their lives...that's just the way it is. It's kind of a like a matter of "faith"....you either believe it or not.

So, at the end of the day, this must serve as a warning to men and women out there, in any scene where sensuality and sexuality are a part of, bodies touch, sweats are exchanged, romance is in the air, etc. BE CAREFUL!!! BE CAREFUL AND MAKE SURE WHO YOU ARE DEALING WITH!!

WOMEN: make sure he is a good guy who cares for your feelings and will romance you the way you always desired, or MEN: make sure she is not an unstable girl who will be destroyed if you don't play the role of the "prince charming" she has set in her mind. But also, WOMEN AND MEN, recognize that "Break-ups" are a reality! You cannot go accusing people if they "Break-up" with you. It could happen in 1 day, 1 week, 3 months, 3 years, or 20 years after being married...in which case it is called: Divorce. Learn to let go and make sure you are able to before you engage in a relationship. Don't destroy your name or the lives of others.

As a woman I don't agree with treating women lightly but I have major doubts that he raped anyone, rather that he talked them into something they later regretted because it didn't have the outcome they were hoping for. I don't think anyone deserves to be in prison for that. Women need to take responsibility for their actions as well.
Many condolences to his family but keep your spirits up as he will get out sooner than it seems.

Very good point and that's something that everyone should remember... if all the accusations were truly false and as ADS tried to plead in his case: just a conspiracy to bring him down by angry women, then that is something that would haunt those girls for life...knowing they sent an innocent man to jail. But only God, Alex, and those women will ever know the full truth.

None of us, outsiders, can judge and pretend to know what happened behind closed doors, whether it goes in favor of the women or Alex. Maybe he did everything they said he did, or maybe he didn't and the women were conspiring as Alex said they were.

The truth is, Alex did admit on the stand to have had relationships with them, not being able to get a full erection in some cases, having premature ejaculations in his pants, etc. So something did, in fact, happen and that's all we know.

Stop putting women back 100 years. No meas no. rape is about power
and control not about sex. if he couldn't perform in bed, he probably got angry. But, we won't know for sure what happened but the jury which was mostly MEN.. 8 men to 4 women believed he was guilty. best to his sister

Why waste time with over the hill(25) women when there were hundreds 18-25. at the onlinesalsa.com site other women commented that they were raped by alex but chose not to come forward. One in particular said that she was raped by him but chose not to go to the Police bc she was young and an illegal alien at the time and alex knew that. so he took advantage of those facts.

This is not an issue that started in 2005. Back in the early 90s he was already doing it and already had a working technique. which he obviously perfected even more. reason why he got away with it for so long.

Aside from the question of whether he actually is guilty of rape or not, I think it's clear that (1) he got lousy legal help, and (2) he mishandled the situation by talking and taunting when he should have not said anything. It's a mystery to me why his lawyer could not get the jury to have a reasonable doubt, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, it's puzzling to me that his lawyer didn't tell him never to talk to anyone about such accusations, because innocent people can get trapped very easily.… Read More

If someone falsely accuses you, and if the police can find some small, innocent error in your explanation of your innocence, you will have both the acccuser and the cops against you; from there it will just worse and worse and become a nightmare. Whether he is guilty or not is not clear from what I have read, but what is clear is that there is reason to wonder about the quality of his legal help and to wonder about whether he was given good advice about not talking when people make serious accusations. If he got good legal advice about not talking, it seems like he didn't follow it. I don't know about Alex, but I know from lawyers and cops that innocent people can get themselves into a lot of trouble by talking when people make serious accusations about them.

One important item that is missing from these commentaries is knowledge of the specific details of the stories Alex's accusers told to police. In order for people to have informed opinions about whether or not the accusations were true, they would need to know exactly what the accusers claimed happened to them and then how they behaved afterwords. Alex absolutely will appeal what has happened. The truth has a way of emerging. e

It has been some time now since Alex was sentenced and I am still not believing what happened, ie first of all, if you know the scene you know that people on the salsa scene are often very jealous and envious of other people who are better dancers than themselves. Now, Alex was one of the top dancers in LA and the country. And he was definitely one of the best teachers. And yes he had more than one girlfriend, sometimes in short order. He lived the life. But Alex was not only admired and respected, but hated by the envious and jealous. And if Alex slept with some girl and then moved on to another girl, you can bet some of them were sharpening their knives for them. The females who testified against Alex - I won't dignify them by calling them women, because that would give them credit they don't deserve - are nothing but jealous immature sickos. You see this in every art form and especially here in LA, the failures, the wannabes, the females who are would be actresses or would-be dancers, end up being hate filled twisted psychopaths. There is no shortage of them. The detectives on this case trolled for "victims" and sure enough, a lynch mob of twisted females volunteered to crucify Alex, they hated him for his talent and they hated him because he did not fall in love with them or give them the outrageous amounts of money they demanded from him, after a few sexual adventures. We all know this type of jealous sick soul and the detectives specialize in digging these "witnesses" out of their holes wherever they might be. How strange that not a single one of these "rape victims" went to the police at the time of the alleged "crime" to file charges. How strange that the judge ignored the facts that two of these females were from the same little town in Hawaii and both of them ended up taking Alex's classes in LA, having affairs with Alex, and then demanding money from Alex-and allegedly neither of these females knew each other ???? I come from a small town myself and I have to say the odds, of two people from my little town coming to the big city, taking class with the same teacher, getting "romantically involved" with the same teacher, and then trying to extort large amounts of cash from this teacher, the odds against two people from the same little town doing this and NOT KNOWING EACH OTHER and NOT HAVING CONSPIRED WITH EACH OTHER , the odds are way over a billion to one. So the fact that the judge and the DA went ahead with this case, even after learning that these two "witnesses" were obvious shake-down artists who were colluding with each other , the fact that the judge went on with the case reminds me specifically of the McMartin pre-school witch hunt orchestrated by the LA DA's office and their co-conspirators who were detectives who led witnessses, etc. But what it also reminds me of is the case of Errol Flynn being framed for statuotory rape, for having sex with a 17 year old girl on his boat at a party. The girl, who was 18 by the time of the trial, did her best to dress up like little miss teacup, whereas everyone who knew her, and had seen her at the parties on Flynn's boat, thought she was much older. To make a long story short Flynn was set up by the lawmen of the era who were trying to shake him down and shake down the studio. And it was also a case of the envious on the outside of show business doing everything possible to bleed those on the "inside" namely Flynn and his studio.
Flynn was defended by attorny Jerry Geisler and found innocent. Unfortunately Alex da Silva did not have the funds to hire the Jerry Geisler of our day, and apparently his defense lawyer has made a mistake in filing times and because of this formality Alex is not being allowed an appeal. What a farce of justice. I could go on, but it was the judge's job, to throw this case out, as soon as the collusion between the two "witnesses" became evident. Didn't know each other? What a joke. Alex was convicted for being a player, for having more than one girlfriend, for not giving in to financial extortion, and for being popular enough with women that he did not have to pretend to be in love with some girl just because he slept with her. Alex had as many choices as he wanted. Women love a great dancer and Alex had many women throwing themselves at him. This case was about a few women who had relations with him, getting angry after the fact because Alex did not "fall in love" with them and in fact he kept being a player and moved on.

For those who believe it is okay for Alex to be in prison regardless of whether or not the charges were true because he was guilty of other sins (unfair financial dealings and womanizing), you better make sure you always live life by the golden rule or else you too might find yourself trying to defend against allegations made by jilted persons from your past.

You sound ignorant and very long winded.
Bottom line...alex da silva is no errol flynn.

The truth is flynn was a bisexual..if you know your history...
and a drunk. Most likely, framed because he was a movie star and had wealth and fame...sorry that I do not see the comparison with da silva.

A legal trial should be something where the premise of guilt is logically proven; in the tautological sense. Every bit of evidence that the prosecution presents has to support every other bit of evidence. Hearsay and rumor are not admissable. When the prosecution presents witnesses whose stories are transparently perjured, and the judge FAILS to strike their testimony, and the jury is so retarded and biased that they swallow obvious lies whole like sardines, then there IS NO LOGIC. And as for the "pain" the alleged "victims" suffered by presenting testimony, these were sick people whose entire lives are lies, from morning to night. Lying on the stand and posing as a "victim" is gratifying and rewarding to someone with a mental disease. Especially if their lies are weapons meant to hurt someone they think rejected their romantic advances. Hell hath no fury like a woman spurned. Yes, and women are willing to tell any lie, no matter how outrageous, and the fact that they are sending an innocent man to jail means nothing to them.

I have to make an editorial change to my last sentence, I don't want to be misunderstood. It should read, that SOME women are willing to tell any lie, no matter how outrageous.

The great majority of women are honest souls who would never consider lying on the stand to get back at some guy they were mad at. However everyone knows that sick souls exist and women with a grudge are willing to say anything, especially if they are "led" by an overeager prosecution. Re Alex da Silva specifically,… Read More

Re Alex da Silva specifically, what the testimony that was dragged up reminded me of, was the spate cases of females in their 20s and 30s, who several years ago were hypnotized by "therapists" into regressing into their childhoods, and discovering in pure B-movie style, that their fathers had molested them when the were 3 or 4 years old. So a variety of women with long-held grudges against their Dads, were able to drag their fathers into court with testimony "developed" by these hypno-therapists. I have to wonder if the females who testified against Alex da Silva, were led in a similar fashion.

One individual was always cordial and courteous. But I knew it was not genuine. Just like most of the males in the Salsa Scene. I would watch this type of situation unfold every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night at the club. Most of them had the same motive; especially the salsa instructors. They would walk around like Gods waiting for females to flock to them. But they would always keep on the look out for those particular type of females. They would walk around like Gods waiting for females to flock to them. But they would always keep on the look out for those particular type of females. I would see them prey on females who were not familiar with the salsa scene. Those whom were just hooked on Salsa. That would be the opportune moment. Those types of females would idolize them immensely. One individual had the same game. He would always try to charm the women he danced with. He would also try to sneak looks at other women too while dancing. The drunk females were too much of an easy prey for him. He wanted a challenge. But it appeared to me that he liked to conquer the more naive females. He enjoyed gaining their admiration and confidence and then shattering it. He once made a pass at me. He did it in a subtle way. I remember him staring at me from a distance. We made eye contact for a brief moment. Before I knew it he had gently brushed up against my side and had smelled the perfume on my neck. He quickly smiled and before I could say anything he was gone. It was like he just disappeared into the masses in the club.I knew then that Alex was a predator. I also knew that I would NEVER degrade myself in the manner as to let anyone in the Salsa Scene conquer me. Unfortunately this type of discernment comes with experience. My heart goes out to the victims and hopefully they will know next time how to spot a predator

lol ... that's a good intro text for the first chapter of a book based on salsa... keep it up! Good writing!

The truth is, if you think most people in Salsa are only in it to dance and not to hook up or find a mate, you are WRONG! That's all. :) Of course people at clubs flirt with each other...duh! They are clubs! It happens in hip hop clubs, strip clubs, salsa clubs, etc!

As far as some of the points posted above, if you just know anything about the scene...you have got to know that there is no way that good female dancers don't know each other, or know OF each other, but that does not mean that it is unlikely that even if girls know each other they could not go raped by the same man on different occasions and timelines. The only reason Alex would have looked and hung out with such girls (those involved in this case) is because of their dancing ability, flexibility, and willingness to do shows or teach lessons with him (for FREE). They are not particularly attractive, although they are not ugly either, but Alex had better looking girls around him than that to actually hook up with. I'm not saying Alex wouldn't go for them either, cus he was that way, but I'm saying...I don't think he would have established an 'emotional' relationship with them or one where he would want to be seen with them over and over again at salsa clubs. The girls must have felt betrayed if Alex's version of the story is true and if they actually "conspired" to do what he said they did. I just don't know how anybody could ever go on with lying about something and destroying another person, if it all was a made-up lie? ... So, either Alex is flat-our denying stuff or these girls really have no regard for another human being and it got to a point where it was either them admitting their lies and face legal action or continuing on to avoid legal action and just screw him over.

Anyway, too much to speculate...and NO WINNERS in this story! We all know who the girls were (at least two of them...the dancers)...and if they girls walk around thinking nobody knows it was them, they are wrong. It must be sad to live with that. That's why I say, no winners here... it just sucks all the way around.

You are obviously a mysoginist.. look it up.
I remember..walking into mama juanas for a lesson.
Da silva was the teacher. I was sooo NEW to salsa I had my cell phone with me. real dancers carry their id and cash..no phones.

He made a bee line for me and asked to borrow my phone. i figured he was in a jam and was the teacher so I obliged.

he made a call and handed me back my phone with a smirk.

That is NOT and was NOT cool...a shitty way to get a girl's number WITHOUT asking permission.

he called for a week straight until he got the picture...What else did he take from women without asking?

Re: ANON, Smelling perfume on a woman's neck or getting a phone number without permission doesn't make a man a predator or a rapist. Men have always pursued women, that's just the way it is. If you can't handle that, stay home......and psychiatric help for paranoia is something to think about.

The salsa scene has changed. Men do not wear suits. Women do not don pretty dresses. People dance in torn jeans and converse tennis shoes. it is a shame... Few of the old school salseros wear a blazer
and some women still don't look like putas/

What is done is done. Da silva needs to get help and start over.
You reap what you sow. He was obviously not a nice guy besides the accusations and you get what you give.

I don't know where you go dancing but for the most part woman still wear pretty dresses. OBVIOUSLY you didn't know Alex, he is a nice guy and sometimes bad things happen to good people, even way back in bible times......get the picture?
To Merrill D and J Chipman-you both are quite rediculous-see a psychiatrist about your fantasies and quit going to Salsa clubs, neither of you are good dancers and lets face it-you're wannabes.
