A lot of people writing, reading and commenting about this case have little idea how the legal system works. In January, Alex is scheduled for sentencing. It is unlikely that the Court will hear arguments for a new trial at the sentencing hearing (the purposes and standards of the hearings are very different). However, even if the Court grants Alex a new trial, he will remain in custody pending the outcome of that trial. Fortunately for Alex, if he receives a new trial (a very low probability) he will spend that time in county jail. He will also receive credit for time served against any sentence he that may eventually be handed down. When Alex is sentenced he will be probably be sent to state prison - a much worse place than county jail. Under the circumstances, the delay in sentencing that keeps him in county jail is not necessarily a bad thing for Alex.

No legal opinion here, however about a year before this all happened, I ordered a few hundred dollars of his dvd's and never got them. He responded by email saying he was going to get to them the next day. Nothing. Then he did not respond to the BBB's inquiry, which gave him am "F" rating. Then I see on his site that he has new dvd's, but he does not respond by phone or email about sending those instead. He does not respond to Paypal's request either. A year later the court thing happens. No dvd's for me.

alex da silva is really a crook and predatory criminal who got away with his "deeds" for a very long time. I AM an eyewitness to what he was accused of. However, I witnessed it since the early 90's when he was still living in SF and commuting to LA. Even I had a confrontation with him about raping two of my friends. One of them while luring her to SF where he even paid for her plane ticket just to get her over there. She told me the whole thing including the actual sexual encounter. I confronted him at the then "Shark club" downtown L.A. but like the dirty RAT that he is, he avoided the situation and w a nasty remark turn around and left.
for the next couple of years we simply watched the dirty RAT in action as he went from sucker to sucker taking advantage of them.

Some chicks "gave up" voluntarily bc they wanted to really get into the salsa scene by being a "Girlfriend" Lucky for him bc he did not have to force himself on those. But what he DID instead was to swindle them out of money. Since they were "dating" he would ask for loans to "take care of an unexpected emergency. I'll give it back to you in a couple of weeks" kind of thing. But never repaid anyone. as some girls have already posted in these forums. (this or onlinesalsa)

People were deceived by his "charming" behavior but really is a conniving dirty RAT without scruples.
I was there at the birth of the L.A. Salsa Scene but the constant-party life is not for me so I dropped out the scene in the late 90s.
When I read in 2009 that alex had been arrested I was surprised and amused. Amused, not bc he was arrested by such a thing but bc it took so long. in '94 when I met him he was already an expert scammer and he already had a "system and pattern"(M.O.) so he refined it even more over the years, I'm sure. Also surprised at the news but not really surprised bc I knew he was going to get it someday.

Of course, his defenders claim that he's just the "victim of Jealousy bc he's a good dancer" or "false accusations from angry ex-girlfriends" However, over so many years there were many many more victims who are ashamed to come forward, or out of the Scene, or simply do not want to get involved. specially since some are now married with families.

and yet another girl; a 16y.o. girl that I thought basic salsa when she an her parents would dance with us as a group. This girl later, being so beautiful, didn't scape the eye of the predator alex and soon was his "dance partner" and sure enough started "messing around" with her. Until her 1st competition with him. Young, She got nervous and made costly mistakes. they lost. he dropped her. (a favor to her actually)and moved on to the next sucker.

Alex is really lucky that my 2 girl friends (there were more that I knew and were his victims as well but I wasn't so close to them)and I; Did not come forward and testify and thus show a pattern going back all the way to the early 90s and, at least, 2 more victims.
This would have gotten him, possibly, a life sentence. bc he would be deemed a "menace to society"

On regards to sentencing the poster above "Anonymous" is right: by delaying time allows for "easy-time" in the county jail to go by as opposed to him being sentenced and go to STATE PRISON "BIG HOUSE" They don't like rapists in there. so they are going to do the same to him form night ONE. Another poster here, who attended court said she noticed that he's actually put on some weight in the form of muscle. so it appears he's getting ready. He better fight for his "cherry".
but it is futile. people accused of Rape or pedophiles they get their "due" in the Joint.
By the time he comes out he will be a "prancing butterfly" and will change HER name to "Alexa da RIO" bc that's where she'll be after Prison. Her life in the US is over. nobody will associate with an Old, aged-by-prison, ex-con and must register for life as sex-offender.

This SOB is GUILTY of that and MUCH MORE. I KNOW! first hand.
He's lucky did not get life if more victims had come forward.

BTW: They did not file for an appeal in timely fashion from the moment of guilty finding. (Normally 10 days. some jurisdictions 18)

The only thing the person who calls him or herself Monitor demonstrates is what a profoundly disturbed person he or she is. Only a disturbed person would be amused at the ordeal Alex has been enduring the past two and one half years. Only a very disturbed person would preemptively write a disparaging remark to Alex's sister, who, along with those of us who care about Alex and justice, have suffered tremendously for two and one half years. Any one who would refer to time spent in the Los Angeles County Jail as "easy time" is ignorant. Anyone who would refer to any loss of freedom for acts the truth of which are highly in question as easy, is both ignorant and filled with hate. Monitor seems to not understand the difference between first and second hand information. First hand is what you personally saw and heard. Second had is what someone told you. Monitor obviously hates Alex (the true reasons for which are hidden deep inside him or her) which colors everything he or she writes here. Monitor will never write here that he or she went to Court to listen to and observe the stories being told so that he might have an informed opinion (which I did). Monitor is ignorant about the time requirements for filing an appeal. The person convicted has 60 days from the date of the sentencing to file the appeal. Alex has not been sentenced. To everyone else out there who reads this and other boards, do not be quick to condemn Alex despite what has happened up until now. The truth has a way of emerging and this matter is far from over.
