Change Your LocationTHE WAREHOUSE SALSA FRIDAYS - 3 Year Anniversary on Friday, 8/26/2011!
Written by Milton Rodas
THE WAREHOUSE FRIDAY SALSA — It does not feel like it was three years ago that Anthony D. Long first began passing out simple made-at-home invitational business cards to friends and acquaintaces for what he simply called: "Salsa at the Marina" at The Warehouse Restaurant. The promotion was low-key and low-budget, but it was very personal and with Anthony's wide network of friends, many quickly planned to attend.

Anthony is an avid musician who had played jazz at The Warehouse in the past, so he knew the management and had a good relationship with the owners. So, when he proposed a 'try-out' salsa night on Fridays (which needed clientele), they agreed only because it was him.
That first Friday night, nobody could have imagined how many people would show up to see this new salsa venue on the west side! It was such a success that the temporary dance floor the venue had gotten for the night could only fit about 6-10 couples, and there were way more than 6-10 couples dancing at any given time! The venue was completely packed and Anthony D. Long had instantly become the owner of one of the most successful Friday salsa nights in the world famous L.A. Salsa Scene.
The next week, the venue doubled the size of its dance floor, which proved to still be too small for the attending crowds each Friday, and eventually they installed a permanent floor that was much more bigger and allowed a lot more people to dance at the same time. That was followed by a better sound system and just a lot more catering for the night, which was a gem for the salsa dancing scene.
Eventually, Anthony got DJ Charlie to come play great tunes each Friday, and that, in part, attracted even more loyal followers from what was the already famous Zanzibar Monday Salsa nights in nearby Santa Monica, CA, where DJ Charlie played regularly. It was such a great addition to the spectacular nights because DJ Charlie also brought with him a full show of entertainment. Charlie is known to grab the mic during his most favorite romantic salsa songs, and sing along karaoke-style right in front of the dancing crowd. A very interesting show, to say the least!
The Friday night grew quickly in popularity and in attenadance, to the point where, at times, it was hard to dance comfortably on the already very large dance floor. It attracted people from all parts of the city who awaited each Friday to drive down to the Marina, and be able to experience The Warehouse once again.
Today, The Warehouse continues to be one of the most popular salsa spots on Friday nights in Los Angeles. And with it's welcoming and unique environment, great music by DJ Charlie, the great looking people and awesome dancers that come back week after week, the friendships that have been formed since it was first opened, and even the fact that parking is widely available around the restaurant, it is easy to see that The Warehouse will be around for years to come!
So, I guess this end of August, three years will have passed since those humble beginnings of what has become such a classic salsa night in our city and the L.A. salsa scene. But the magic continues as Anthony and company continue to bring us a great production each and every Friday.
On Friday, August 26, 2011 at 9:00 PM, the 3 year anniversary of this great Friday Night venue will take place. The event will be a WHITE PARTY, so dress in WHITE!
Come and celebrate three fabulous years of dancing at The Warehouse in the Marina, and welcome many more years to come!
DANCING AT THE WAREHOUSE
----
The Warehouse in the Marina is a great venue that has indoor and outdoor dining. Its outdoor dining has beautiful views as it faces the marina itself and is right next to the water. The food and drinks are also very delicious! It truly is a very cozy, private, and romantic spot to go dining...and if you love salsa dancing, you can hit the dance floor right after a great dinner.
