Salsa Dancing at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles

BELASCO THEATRE SALSA DANCING — The Belasco Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles was built in 1926. The theatre was built fully to Belasco's wishes with Tiffany lighting and ceiling panels, rich woodwork, and gorgeous murals. Most of its decor is still intact.

The locale is truly impressive and beautiful. It has recently undergone a $12 million restoration that allowed the 40,000 sq. ft. venue to retain most of its original architecture and design. Likewise, with their all-encompassing D&B Audiotecknik sound system, the Belasco currently has the most powerful sound system in Los Angeles.

Visiting the Belasco will be an experience you won't forget.

With its proximity to the nightclub that has given all of us, Salsa dancers, a lot of memories: The Mayan

Nightclub, we would like to foresee an embrace of the Latin culture, our music, our dancing, and all the artists we like. While, Return on Investment should be the main goal always, The Mayan has done remarkably well bringing names like Oscar De León, among many others, to their venue at least once or twice a year.

Also, the classic world-renowned Salsa competitions at the Mayan were abandoned upon a management take-over by the owner's daughter. This was a tragic dilemma since The Mayan gained all its fame worldwide as a result of their competitions and broadcast of the videos online.

The Mayan never knew how to capitalize on the content they possessed and were stubborn to maintain a "flash-driven" website with fancy, but useless, sounds and effects as their online image. In an era where "social" is the name of the game online, businesses this large that depend on young people coming in to spend money, cannot or should not sustain themselves on "static" websites. The possibilities are so much greater than that!

The Belasco has a lot of potential in Los Angeles. We at SalsaHook.com wish them the best. One of my dreams has always been to bring a concert with classic Latin figures to Los Angeles...if that is to happen someday, it might just be at the Belasco...instead of the Mayan.
