Change Your LocationBachata Music is now very popular in Los Angeles Nightclubs
Written by Milton Rodas
BACHATA MUSIC — A few years ago, when Bachata music was very popular everywhere else in the country (and the world), Los Angeles Latin Nightclubs where Salsa had dominated for so long, resisted to give in to the craze. Nowadays, Bachata music is a given musical genre when you go to a Latin Nightclub.
You cannot go to a Latin Nightclub and not hear some beautiful Bachata tunes being played by the DJ in charge. And that's a good thing, as many couples find it to be a perfect opportunity to get close and loving with each other on the dance floor.
Although, with the popularity of Bachata, a "Dominican style" of dancing where couples actually keep a distance from each other and worry more about their footwork, than each other, also took rise in the Latin scene, Bachata is still perceived by a majority as a romantic musical genre where dancing very close is the norm. In fact, many Dominicans (people who were actually born there or have an inherited culture) assure us that Bachata is to be danced close and slow, not with fast or fancy footwork all the time, for whole songs, for whole nights.
Well, today in Los Angeles, you won't be able to go to a nightclub and not have some Bachata music being played, and depending on the deejay in charge, some clubs might have a lot more than others. Which comes to be a curse or a blessing to nightclub goers, depending on their acceptance of the genre.
There are still those who refuse to accept it as a viable Latin dance, since they claim dancing it takes almost no skill and those who dance it often can't dance Salsa or Cha Cha Cha.
Even though, it is true that many dancers in the Latin scene who learned Bachata before any other Latin dance, and only focus on the Bachata style, cannot execute fluently to Salsa or Cha Cha Cha (and sometimes Merengue) on the dance floor, this is a matter of choice for such dancers and them only following what they love. Bachata has a very strong following in Los Angeles these days.
Well, a city where once only clubs like Margarita Jones Nightclub, Panamerican, Los Globos, and El Bahia, played the Bachata genre, now ultra-popular Salsa clubs like Stevens Steak House, El Floridita, Granada Nightclub, and El Mayan, have also given in and have helped popularize the Bachata scene tremendously.
