Change Your LocationThe Magic of Vaudeville: Exquisite Burlesque Dancing
Written by davina agudelo
As the deep- red velvety curtain rises, the audience members go back in time to those ancient performances of true human proximity: body and soul, music and movement in perfect liveliness and genuine reality – the sudden comfort of human closeness.
Especially in the city of Angels, where one can feel isolated among grand productions that no longer speak to the fundamental beginnings of art expression: the intrepid feeling of sudden excitement takes one by surprise as one encounters the beauty and talent of these dancers (Tracy Phillips, Carolina Cerisola,Kelleia,Jade Ruggiero,Zepha) through the exquisitely choreographed dance routines and solos.
That's what makes it so special - a small venue, red lighting, golden paintings, a hidden bohemian glamour in downtown Los Angeles and the creativity that comes when a group of women of all sizes and personal styles light up the stage: Fascination. Sensuality. Fantasy.
Three shows through out the evening. And they all leave you wanting a little more. All the dancers give it their unique flavor and their group pieces are vibrant, energetic and creative.
Two of the solo performances make it an unforgettable evening: A black haired beauty enigmatic in essence ( Tracy Phillips) captures everyone's attention as she lip- synchs and plays with an old fashioned microphone. She is so expressive that even her feline eyes can make one dream. She is pure sensuality. She conquers the stage.
And then, the well- known Argentinean dancer, Carolina Cerisola takes the stage with her powerful Latin flair. Her movements are all the rhythms of Latin music at once, all their ancestry in one body - a little samba, a little tango, a little salsa and lots of freedom. Pure passion. She breathes through dancing. She wears the red so distinctive of her performances that shows her at her best…. As alive as expected and never as good as when seen in her territory. It is not enough what it has been said about her dancing, one must see it to believe it!
A show that not only the lovers of the performing arts at its best will enjoy, but everyone with a moment to let go and find a place of pleasure at this fine showcase of raw talent will find fascinating. An evening to get way from the isolation of big venues and get a taste of Vaudeville…happiness, passion, artistry and entertainment.
