4th Annual ESPN World Salsa Championships
Certainly an event that is closely followed relatively by a very few number of people around the world, but which is broadcasted to millions all over the world via the ESPN television chains and outlets like Youtube and other sources, the World Salsa Championships is one of the few yearly events that still creates a small buzz across the Salsa scene. Most people just want to know the results and do not make an attempt to travel to the event or follow closely who qualified or how the competitors are matching up against each other, but for those competing, this is a very important event to showcase who they are, popularize their names, and hopefully have the experience be favorable in terms of travel, income, and validity of their dance.

This is certainly the one Salsa competition event where the most countries are represented to compete against each other, and it's very interesting to see the progression of Salsa dancing in various geographical areas as time passes. A variety of qualifying rounds are held at Salsa congresses in many countries and continents of the world. Albert Torres and promoters around the world have certainly done a great deal of work in bringing so many dancers together to be a part of this event, and without them the event would not be at the same level.

This year, the state of the current US and World economy also seemed influential in the selection of venues and how glamorous the event was made. But dancers showed up and put their hearts out there, hoping to get the fairest of scores and be ranked accordingly in the world. It is fair to say that truly, the best of the best faced off at this competition, as in past ones of the same kind. Hopefully many more years follow and this event remains strong, and hopefully the participation of dancers all over the world remains steady. The event would not mean much if only people from 4 or 5 different countries participated year after year and competed against each other. For this, good organization will be important, along with fair scoring and selection of winners, and the continued reputable standing of the event itself in the eyes of competitors and the audience.
